Lighthouse Education Center (LEC) is a center-based program for severely emotionally impaired preschool through twelfth grade students of Berrien County. Lighthouse Education Center is part of the Berrien County RESA. Students are referred to LEC from local districts throughout the county and are enrolled in the program if their disability is too severe to be serviced by the special education team in their local school. The goal of the program is to empower students with the social skills and the behavior management strategies necessary to be successful in the general education setting. Each student is individually assessed when entering the program and an individualized education plan and a behavior plan is developed. Student's work their way through a level system that, when fulfilled, enables them to begin transitioning back to their local district.
